About Us

Maths Online School, started by Dr Nikki Fairbank, is on a journey to provide an inclusive and supportive education environment for all. Maths can sometimes be seen as an isolating subject, where only those with innate talent can succeed. This can be particularly disheartening for those who don’t feel they are ‘mathematically gifted’ but who need to achieve a certain qualification or grade to enhance their career or allow them access to a higher course. At Maths Online School, we believe that success is attainable for anyone who is willing to put in the effort required, whilst receiving specialist support and guidance.

After completing a BSc, MSc and PhD in Mathematics at a Russell group University, Nikki initially provided face-to-face Maths tuition to secondary school pupils, University students and adult learners. After a couple of years, she moved into teaching full-time in independent schools, working with students from Year 7 all the way through to A’ Level Further Maths. Nikki spent over a decade working with highly academic pupils, from both the UK and overseas, who were striving for a place at a top University, helping with UKMT and entrance exam preparation. Nikki then moved from mainstream schools into the special education sector, working with pupils from a diverse range of backgrounds and with varying levels of difficulty.

Why was the Maths Online School created?

During her time in special education, Nikki became inspired by the challenges that learners were able to overcome and how finding enjoyment in Maths allowed these learners to gain the confidence and qualifications needed to move forward into rewarding careers. However, it also became apparent that, for some, Maths can be a lifelong struggle. It became a passion for Nikki to help everyone make progress in Maths, allowing them to move forward successfully to their next stage in life, regardless of their ability or personal challenges.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be?

We develop courses for anyone in secondary school, college, home education or adult learners. If you aren’t sure which course you need, reach out and we’ll let you know if we have anything suitable for you.

I have additional needs, can you help?

Our courses are designed with accessibility in mind. Nikki has worked with individuals with a range of needs including ASD, ADHD, dyscalculia, dyslexia, Maths-based anxiety and mental health challenges. It is important to us that this experience feeds into all of our materials, so that anyone can learn with us and have a positive experience.

I can’t find the course I need. Can you help?

We are on a mission to help everyone enjoy and succeed in Maths, whether they have a gift for the subject, find it despairingly difficult or are somewhere in between. However, the process of creating high-quality courses that allow all learners to reach their full potential takes time. We will upload new courses as soon as they are available but if you have something specific you are looking for, reach out and let us know. You can also enquire about our tutor-led courses or individual tuition, if we aren’t currently offering the self-paced course you need.

How much time do I need to have available?

A benefit of our self-paced courses is the flexibility they offer. You don’t need to be available at a specific time or work to a fixed schedule, but can if you want to. We offer guidance on how to structure your learning, but ultimately the courses are available to complete at your own pace. If you want to work more quickly or slow things down a bit, it’s entirely up to you.

If you opt for our tutor-led or individual tuition, the schedule will be a little more rigid, but we try to offer different options in terms of lesson length and frequency to suit as many of our learners as possible.
